The first visit will be Port-Louis, the capital city of Mauritius and the islands thriving commercial center is an ideal starting-point for the discovery of the island. Port Louis was found in 1735 by Mahé de Labourdonnais. A photo stop at La Citadels, an old fortress built in 1814, will give you a panoramic view over the city with the champ de Mars, the second oldest race-course in the world, as well as the blend of modern and ancient buildings squeezed between the harbor and the mountain range.

The city tour will bring you to the main square, palm-lined Place d’Armes, there are some particularly fine colonial buildings like the government house(1735) and the Municipal Theatre (1822) as well as two Cathedrals, catholic and Anglican, a Mosque, the Supreme Court, the Natural History Museum and the central market.

Visit the Caudan Waterfront, a modern precinct not only known for its designer shops and duty free jewelry but also for its cosmopolitan craft market, covering two floors of spices, souvenir, basketry and craftsmen at work.

The tour continue to Mauritius Natural Botanical Garden of “Pamplemousses” – an exotic garden which is one of the wonders of the world and a must see for all botanical minded. In the year of 1770 Pierre Poivre started collecting different plants species from tropical places around the world and built the Mauritius famous botanical gardens of Pamplemousses. Today the garden is one of the most voluminous tropical parks world-wide. Explore the pool of the giant water-lilies (Victoria Regia) a native to the Amazon region, the Brazilian King Palms, Palmyra Palms, Bottle Palms, Travelers Trees and the Talipot Palms, which flower once after 40 to 60 years and then die. Other star attractions include the decorative golden bamboo and the giant bamboos are raffia, sugar, toddy, fever, fan and even sex palms.

Savor the smells – ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, camphor, lemon, eucalyptus, sandalwood and others. Standing beside the more conventional mahogany, ebony and fig trees, you’ll see the marmalade box tree, the chewing-gum tree, the fish poison tree and the sausage tree. There is a 200-year-old Buddha tree and, for Christians, the cross tree, with leaves shaped like a cross. Before leaving this amazing place, take a visit at the Java Deer reserve and the giant Aldabra tortoise’s park.

This tour will continue to the Sugar Estate Museum which was originally a metallurgical factory, an indigo factory, and then a sugar factory. It has become since 2003, a cultural and leisure site. Sugar Estate Museum is now an absolute must in the cultural and touristic landscape of Mauritius. The site offers a unique exhibition of its kind in Mauritius, a high class service and an unforgettable visit… an original and wonderful way of discovering the Mauritian culture.

Sugar Estate Museum offers a trip throughout the history and reveals the heart of the island and its secret stories, from its origins to today’s ethnic and cultural environment. This rich heritage has always been linked to the island sugar epic. The second part of the site is entirely dedicated to manufacturing secrets of the exclusive Mauritian special sugars.
Thanks to its state of the art and interactive presentation, summaries and in-depth comments, images and spectacular scenes, videos and DVDs – the exhibition visit will satisfy every age group. In addition, as part of your visit, you will have the chance to shop at the estate boutique – Do not miss this great opportunity to enjoy, try and purchase a local one made special sugars and the Mauritian rum made local. If you wish, you can also enjoy lunch at the real estate restaurant Sucre, where you can have a good quality lunch with a beautiful view of the Pieter both mountains.

You will end the tour with a visit Aquarium Mauritius with discovering the incredible marine life present in the blue lagoons which is found Pointe aux Piments, northwest of the island. Since opening in April 2005, the aquarium is constantly attracting many curious visitors to discover, in its entirety, the Mauritian biodiversity.

From over 200 different species, you will have the chance to observe the stone fish, also called “Laffe” clown fish, the devil scorpion, wrasses, damsels with black lips and Johnston bridesmaids. Other emblematic species of the Indian Ocean are also present, like the Racasse or moray eels. The aquarium also has adequate infrastructure to provide a favorable environment for the development of different kinds of crustaceans such as crabs, lobsters and shrimps. You will perceive among other anemones of various colors characterized by their thin and restless tentacles, starfish, sharks or sea turtles. Note however that the grouping is based on species cohabitation present no risk.

Finally, your kids will learn about some marine species, in what is called the “Touch Pool”. This direct contact with the fish leaves them a souvenir for the fewer lifetimes! Enjoy also, from 11am to 15h, the feeding of fish, a sight that is breathtaking!
