Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, is the biggest city of the island and the commercial, political, administrative and cultural centre. Discover the beauty of the north of Mauritius. The botanical garden from “Pamplemousses” is an sightseeing of world-wide reputation. Nearly from all tropical places in the world collected Pierre Poivre in the year of 1770 different species of plants and established the famous Pamplemousses Garden of Mauritius. Today the garden is one of the most voluminous tropical park world-wide. By a walk you will discover the pool of the giant water-lilies (Victoria Regia) with its cartwheel large leafs, the Brazilian King Palms, Palmyra Palms, Bottle Palms, Travellers Tree and the Talipot Palms, said to flower once every 60 years after which they die. Further you will be able to see one of the loveliest temple from Mauritius, the Hindu temple from Triolet. Enjoy the fabulous views of the lagoons with its white sandy beaches of Trou aux Biches and Grand Baie until Pereybere and Cap Malheureux. Fishing
Mauritian waters abound with large varieties of fish. Big game fishing competitions are organized from October to March, during which about 600 marlins are usually boated and weighed. From March to May is the yellow-fin tuna season. The main fishing activities extend from the southwest to the north coast.
Diving
Marvellous coral gardens are found at a depth of 15m and are home to over 1000 different species of fish. The magnificent underwater scenery is protected by law; the use of spear-guns is forbidden and the collection of shells and corals is strictly prohibited.
Yachting
Sailing conditions are excellent. Contact us for excursions in the open sea to coastal islands around Mauritius.
Horse Racing
From the beginning of May until the end of November the horse-racing season is of outstanding interest to visitors. Meetings are held during weekends at the Champ de Mars racecourse in Port Louis, which is one of the oldest racecourses in the world. Mauritius Derby Day is the Maiden Cup, which is usually run in September.
Golfing
Mauritius has a number of excellent golf courses: there 9-hole courses at Trou aux Biches, Poste de Flacq, Blue Bay, Balaclava and Flic en Flac. 18-hole courses are found at Bel Ombre, Belle Mare, Ile aux Cerfs and Le Morne. Vacoas has a private club and 18-hole golf course, where visitors pay admission.
